If you can't connect to an IPCallBox this page is for you!

There are two ways to do this. Method one requires that you can physically connect to the LAN/eth0 interface, know the password and know which subnet the WAN interface is not on. It has the advantage that you don't need to reset the box. Method 2 does require that you reset the box by pulling the power but it doesn't need the password.

Method 1

With a PC connected to the LAN port (a direct connection is not necessary), start IPCallBox Management Station. Use the feature Unit->Recover Unit to set the IP address and subnet of the LAN interface. Be very careful to ensure it does not clash with the subnet on the WAN interface. Now that you know the IP address you should be able to transfer the configuration from the IPCallBox and find out the WAN port's IP address.

Method 2

The IPCallBox has a limited mode called "recovery configuration" mode. It does require that you can physically get to the unit.

This is useful if one of the following is true:-

To bring the unit into recovery configuration mode you must perform the following steps:-

  1. Power cycle the unit.
  2. As soon as the lights start "dancing"* across the front un-power the unit.
  3. Re-power the unit.
  4. Wait for the unit to boot (up to 1 minute).
  5. Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN interface.

Now that the following steps have been performed you can access the IPCallBox on the LAN interface. It will have the IP Address 10.10.10.X. The last digit is determined from the last byte of the LAN interace MAC address. Soi if the MAC address is 00:01:DF:00:01:FF, then X=255 because hexidecimal 0xFF=decimal 255. If you type "0xFF in decimal" into Google it will calculate it for you.

The last bit of information you need is the username and password.

*The dancing lights will follow the pattern 7,6,1,2,6,5,2,3,5,4,3,4 (assuming the lights are number sequentially from 1 to 7).
