The Future for Military Communications.

The Sentinel IP Phone is based on a Windows™ based softphone application that was originally developed by Selex. In early 2008 Selex wanted to provide the same functional application on non PC based standalone telephone hardware. Axtan was asked to help in this task by taking a Selex hardware design and providing the Operating System and hardware support package that would allow the existing PC application to use the new dedicated hardware.

The project involved providing a Linux OS implementation for the main processor and Linux drivers for a number of DSP devices and other peripherals as well as an upper layer API that allowed the windows GUI to be reused. Axtan provided the complete audio subsystem and RTP implementation and provided the high layer API's for interfacing to the IP protocol stack , the LCD display and the keypad. Selex then succesfully ported their VoIP signalling stack, and their GUI functional interface onto the high level interfaces provided by Axtan.

The Selex Sentinel products have been supplied to BAE Systems as part of FALCON, the major UK MoD information infrastructure programme. FALCON will provide secure, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and high capacity data communications across the tactical battlespace.
