Axtan: Making Connections

The Future for Military Communications.

The Selex Sentinel ISDN and Analogue Terminal Adapter is part of the next generation of UK military communications equipment and is designed to provide connectivity for legacy analogue and ISDN telephony equipment on military VoIP networks. Based on the IPCallBox Branch Gateway it allows government, police and military forces to utilise the emerging technology of VoIP networks to provide a reliable and secure communications capability.

The initial trial versions exploited the COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) technology of the Axtan IPCallBox Branch units with the addition of six analogue FXS (Telephone) ports.

The latest release has been enhanced to provide various Military Features that are expected by customers in the UK and Europe. The ISDN interfaces are capable of synchronising the ISDN bit clocks between two units across the asynchronous IP packet network to ensure that ISDN 64 Kbps data calls are carried across the IP Network without bit errors due to overrun or underrun at the ISDN interfaces. This requirement is especially important when working with ISDN based encrypted telephones such as the BRENT range of encrypted telephones. Various versions of the Selex gateway have been produced ranging from a single ISDN , Single FXS , Single Ethernet port version to a fully equipped version which supports two Basic Rate ISDN interfaces, six analogue FXS ports and incorporates a 4 port Ethernet switch. A single gateway can provide the telephony an Ethernet connectivity for a small operational post.

The Selex Sentinel products have been supplied to BAE Systems as part of FALCON, the major UK MoD information infrastructure programme. FALCON will provide secure, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and high capacity data communications across the tactical battlespace.
