TRip Gateway

In September 2004 Adrian Charlton of AW Communications Systems Ltd approached Axtan with a request for an Internet based device that could be used to replace 4 wire EPS-8 or EPS-9 lines with lower cost ADSL lines.

We specified a device from scratch that provided all the features and functionality that AWCSL required as well as adding in some unique resilience and security features that would make the product a competition beating offering.

  •  600 ohm 2 wire interfaces for transmit and receive audio to interface to existing radio equipment.
  •  Fully configurable RS232 serial port to facilitate control of remote transceiver base stations.
  •  Eight user configurable input/output pins for remote physical status monitoring and control actions
  •  Web browser configuration
  •  Telnet port configuration
  •  Wideband 7 Khz audio mode using G.722 compression (64Kbps media data rate)
  •  Standard VoIP Codecs :- G.729 , G.723 and G.711 A and u law
  •  Firewalled against unauthorised configuration and media stream access
  •  Disaster Recovery feature for rapid switchover between alternate sites

The project was underatken as a joint venture, with Axtan maintaining the IPR for the firmware whilst AWCSL hold the IPR for the hardware design.

In October 2006 the Federation of Communication Services awarded AWCSL its prestigious, Gerald David OBE Award for innovation in Business Radio for the TRip unit control solution. The award was founded in 2005, in memory of Gerald David OBE who championed the business radio sector, in order to find the company that has the most innovative product or service in business radio.
